E-Book Publishers' Websites: A Review « Daisy Harris
When I first decided to publish my stories, I had two criteria for e-pubs: 1. That they be willing to accept my work, and 2. That their site didn’t either look like someone’s mom built it in 1993 or like they sold porn.
The first requirement was more important that the second, but still– I did take a good look at websites before making a final decision. At the time I knew nothing about the publishing industry whatsoever, so the best I could do was consider how my work would be represented.
Now that I’ve finished writing the first story in another series, and know an eensy bit more, I’ve started looking closely at websites and store fronts again. I’m noticing certain trends, analyzing how sites make me feel as a customer. Sure, I want to go with a company with a good sales record and with great editors. But let’s face it– someday my mom might find out my pen name and Google it!
And more than that, how can I expect my readers to buy my books from a site I wouldn’t want to buy from myself?
Here I must state categorically that . I have never in my life bought a paper version of a romance novel. Whenever possible, I buy e-books from Amazon. I purchase books while at coffee shops or with small children looking over my shoulder. I’m not embarrassed by my reading matter, but I’ll admit to shifting my laptop sideways a lot while I browse.
