The March 13, 2010, theft of an estimated $76 million worth of prescription drugs from a warehouse in Enfield was the largest pharmaceutical heist in history, and the biggest theft ever in Connecticut. It may also turn out to be the most successful.
Police say there have been no arrests and none of the tractor-trailer load of anti-depressants like Prozac and Cymbalta and anti-psychotics such as Zyprexa have yet been recovered.
The methods used bear striking similarities to other major warehouse thefts in 2009 in different sections of the U.S. It’s conceivable that some or all of those very expensive pills stolen in Enfield may already be out of the country and in the hands of foreign buyers. By some knowledgeable estimates, the thieves could sell their purloined drugs for as much as $20-25 million.
